God’s Home-cooked Meals for Us

Text: John 6:27

27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

Notes from Guest Pastor Lutz’s sermon:

INTRODUCTION: God wants us to have “home-cooked” meals. Meals that are wholesome, nutritious, and given by Him to share with family and friends.
I.  Fast Food  vs the Home-cooked Diet

A.  What is often in fast food:
       - Low value of nutrition
     - Eating by yourself or while you’re doing something else
     - Processed, salty and sweet (made to “go down easy”
     - Costly
     - Easily forgotten

B. Home-Cooked Meal
     - Wholesome, made with “whole” foods, not processed.
    -  Eaten with the “whole” family to share and savor the food
    -  Time to taste the richness and discuss our daily gifts.
     - Free to those who come to the “Family” table.
     - Memorable, nutritious and satisfying.
2. God provides all the “nutrition” for our souls that we need.

1. His Word. To keep us healthy, God gives us His Word. The Bible is the place to get our healthiest and most nutrient-filled food. So be sure take a generous helping each day!

2. Commune daily on our free Baptism promises. Stay on a healthy diet by remembering the promise of an eternal life given to you through the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ which works in us through the Holy Spirit to keep us His—all at no cost to us!

3. Between meal prayers. Prayer can help keep our hunger from pushing us into eating “extra” calories that are not necessary, talk to the Father for guidance and ask for strength. Rely on Him instead of feeding ourselves “empty” calories.

4. Fellowship and Sharing. Having fellowship with believers and sharing our “faith-life” with friends and neighbors nourishes others as well as ourselves.

5. The Lord’s Supper. Communion with the Lord is a “high-protein” (figuratively) meal given to us as a means to receive God's free and gracious gifts of life and forgiveness offered in the bread (His body) and the wine (His blood).

CONCLUSION:  Fuel your faith-life daily with healthy food from God, our Father. His Saving Grace will sustain us and strengthen us to lead healthy lives here on earth while we wait for our “banquet” in heaven with Him!
“Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast
in the kingdom of God.”
